The Structure was prepared by filling the cavities in the bamboo with vegetable oil and parafin, then sprayed with parafin - six people lit the structure with flaming torches.

The nature of bamboo is such that when a section eventually ignites it does not generate enough heat in isolation to ignite adjacent sections. Eventualy the burnt part fails through being carbonised and the pole breaks, removing the remaining bamboo from the heat source.

Eventually enough struts were seperated to make a small pile under one main upright and thereby start a local heat generating fire - As this fire increased more poles were burnt through, liberated and the heap grew larger... and hotter... and bigger....
After several hours the structure had lost most of its major upright members, yet managed not to fail. The process became a strategic matter of second guessing which was the key upright - the structure slowly lowered itself to the ground as successive key members failed, only to be replaced by the remaining shortened stumps.

Finaly the structure collapsed into the fire - it was totaly consumed within half an hour.

Images of the event will be posted here soon.
