A memorial event to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of The Town of Crawley.
A collaborative project with Jane Sybilla Fordham.
Originaly conceived as the centrepeice for the anniversary celebrations and Royal visit, the two tonne granite and mosaic sculpture was temporarily sited in order that the Queen and Prince Philip could begin the massive collection of local signatures that would be used to complete the work.

The single glacial boulder was always intended to become part of a larger work that represents the inhabitants of Crawley through inclusion of their autographs. this image shows a visualisation of the completed project.

The maquette that accompanied the event, showing the location of the stone among others that were to bear the communiities autographs

H.M. The Queen and The Mayor of Crawley discuss the work with me.

The signatures that H.M. The Queen and Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh left at Crawley on the day. protocol dictated that the stone itself could not be signed, but the signatures were transfered exactly and carved into the stone. The Queen said that it was the largest signature that she had ever done.
