At last I have had the time to completely rebuild This website, and today, monday the 9th of November 2009, it is ready to be made active.
Hopefully it should appear something like this....
(assuming that you dont use internet explorer or have javascript turned off)

I have completely rewritten the code for the site, even though the visual appearance is based on the previous site.
The reason for this rewrite was that the site was previously managed by the content management system Drupal, and Drupal proved to be a monstrosity, taking over the whole of my servers control systems and despite being advertised as a simple front end system, it required a thorough re-learning of its arcane ways everytime I wanted to update anything.
Instead I now use the rather marvelous ModX framework - and have regained full control over all the code on my site - and in the process learning a lot more useful php, mysql and javascript, rather than a load of obscure drupalese.
The one difficult decision that had to be made was wether to lose the yards of horizontal scroll and the usual scrollbars in favour of a scrolling script that shifts the content accross the page in steps by clicking an arrow. It took a while to find a method that degrades gracefully, so that if your browser fails to read the page properly, the site will still be navigable. Even though this sites main pages will appear without scrollbars - the site will be workable in browsers without javascript.
No doubt I will continue to add tweaks to this design, at the moment i am using a few core jquery scripts to provide a few bells and whistles:
The scroll box on the main pages is acheived using the codascroll script from Remy Sharp's jQuery for Designers.
The portfolio pages use the jquery script Galleria from Devkick.
The gallery management scripts for ModX called maxigallery and maxigallery solo by doze
